Trip to Africa - Primary School and Cultural Center

October 15, 16, 2019
After that we went to a Primary School for children that Gate 1 helps fund.

 The Safari Primary School.

On their lunch break we got to visit with the children and teachers and they got a break in their routine.
They were all ages and seemed as interested in seeing the strange tourists as we were in seeing them.

They even took us in their classrooms. They were excited to talk to us and show us their school work and get some individual attention.

They were very friendly and happy and wanted to hold hands and give hugs.

We had a long bus drive to the Kingdom of eSwantini (used to be called Swaziland).  It's an independent country and is the home of the Zula (also called Banti) tribe.  We had to go through a border crossing and everything and get our passports stamped.  Along the drive we stopped at a candle and handicraft .  One of the shops was named Swift.  Eventually we got to Great Bend where we stayed the night at a beautiful resort hotel at the top of a small mountain.

The next day we drove back across the border to South Africa again.  We went to a glass factory and then the Matsamo Cultural Village.  There we saw a historical ancient Zulu village.  It was very interesting.

They put on a Zulu singing and dance show.

Video of Zulu Song.

We were surprised that a lot of the songs were Christian gospel type songs.  You could recognize them by the melody even though the words were in Zulu,  Christianity is the predominate religion in South Africa and eSwantini.

We did a lot of travelling by bus today and we're having fun in Africa.
