We got the chance to fly out and see Jarom and Paige. We were traveling with Tianna. She works for Delta part time and we get to fly standby as a part of her benefits. Which is great, and has allowed us to do a lot more travel and not worry about the air fare. Also save a lot of money.
This was our first time to meet Jarom's wife Paige. They live so far away in Lancing, Michigan and we were in the Philippines on a mission when they got married. Paige is a student at Michigan State University and is studying for her Doctors Degree in nuclear physics. She gave us a tour of the lab and facilities and it was fun to meet her and hear her tell us all about the particle accelerators there.
She works and is doing research at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams at Michigan State University. She studying how some of the rare nuclear particles created by the accelerator collisions might be used to fight cancer.
On a different day we took a tour of the creamery at MSU. The students make and market their own ice cream and we had to sample some of that, of course.
They make milk, cheeses, and ice cream; but the main purpose is to teach students in the science of dairy production.
We also went to church with them on Sunday, went to a Habitat for Humanity meeting with Jarom, and one day saw Jarom lead a class on investment strategy as part of a Dave Ramsey program. And we visited a museum there on the campus and saw some dinosaur and woolly mammoth fossils.
It was fun to see Jarom and Paige and visit with them for a few days. They are doing well. It's crazy to see grandchildren all grown up and starting their own families. But also heartwarming.
